I visited the local charity shops just yesterday and this lovely little piece caught my eye sitting at the counter and he fits in really well with the whole Egyptian collection I'm building up. What surprised me was how HEAVY the bust actually is and it's got a few greenish tinted parts on it so I wonder is it made from copper or bronze? It definitely feels like it, really heavy, not plastic and not resin- definitely metal. He's also on his own too which makes me wonder is he actually supposed to be part of a set of bookends...?
He's now currently sitting on my bedside locker beside the black cat and the resin Anubis which looking at them all together really surprises me on how the collection is going! :P

He's a beautiful pharaoh Lauren, fabulous detail & love his beard! A very stately Tutankhamun, he does look perfect among your great Egyptian pieces

Thank you so much Newfld and yes he does look rather stately....a bit like a memorial piece too I think?!

I think this is modeled after the actual funeral mask of the boy king, Tutankhamen, which was found when his sarcophagus was opened after the tomb was discovered in 1922.
The mask weighs a tad over 22 pounds of solid gold with semi-precious stone accents.
I consider myself very fortunate to have laid eyes on the fabulous thing, first in the 1970s in New Orleans when the Egyptian government permitted artifacts from King Tut’s tomb to tour certain museums of the US.
Then for a second time, in the 1990s, at the Cairo museum. It’s a gleaming, fascinating, thing of beauty….you would love it!
I hope your collection continues to grow and inspire you.

Hard to tell if resin, the older ones like this I used to own and always were hollow as the metal is cast. This one added a base which probably cannot be taken off. Also usually the face is not as good on the hollow variety. They are good at fooling people and that resin really adds the weight to it as they are not hollow. I had a flute boy and I wanted more detail so I drilled holes (into the resin).

Thank you watchsearcher, it’s an exciting thing to see these pieces up close especially the real thing! I have to say it’s probably one of my favorite man made objects in the whole world!

Thank you apostata, there’s no makers name on it so I’m not sure

Interesting to read that PhilDMorris, the base on this one looks to be slate and is a bit loose and it’s certainly a weighty thing anyway so it could be either metal or resin( I’m going to say metal because it’s got a greenish tint and powder on it in parts)

I would imagine it would be impressive dav2no1, I’ve only ever seen a small collection in my country’s museum, they had mummies and all there too it was really cool and interesting

Very nice find Lauren!! I was fortunate enough to see the King Tut exhibit when it was in Chicago, back in the 1970's. It was incredible!!
