I found this bowl - appears to commemorating an anniversary 1867-1937, but i don't read Danish. My bro does, but i haven't bothered him with it yet. I can tell it says Copenhagen, but not much else. Would anyone like to give it a try? H. Wolfhagen was a very well known Danish pewtersmith from the 1920s-40s. not sure what category this falls under?

      ho2cultcha, Cool. :-)

Well, I thought it would be easy-peasy, but dunno about that "Laugh/LAVS" business:

      TIL MALERMESTER ALFRED A. MØLLER
      FRA KØBENHAVNS MALERLAUG
      KIØBENHAFFN MALER LAVS SIGNET
      29/1/1867 - 29/1/1937

TO PAINTER MASTER ALFRED A. MØLLER
      FROM COPENHAGEN PAINTING LAUGH
      KIØBENHAFFN PAINTS LAVS SIGNET
      29/1/1867 - 29/1/1937

Neither do I understand the significance of the numbers "2162' surrounding the shield/coat of arms in the middle.

thank you keramikos - as always! i believe those numbers are a date: 1622. I'll try to figure it out now that i have it in writing - it's a big help.

      ho2cultcha, FWIW, you're welcome. };-)

Yeah, I considered the possibility that 2162 would be the 500th anniversary of something that happened in 1662, but I was multi-tasking, and lost the thread of thought.

Similarly, I looked for works by painter ALFRED A. MØLLER, but found only works by somebody with a close but not exact name.

Running out of time again. >8-0

This is kind of anniversary gift to a painter (the kind of painter that paints houses etc.)
"Malerlaug" is the painter's guild in Copenhagen and they are probably presenting this as some kind of appreciation to mr. Møller (I did a google search - but no immediate hits)

I am btw the grandson of the artists :-) so if you are planning to sell the item I would be interested...

Digging a little deeper I will guess that this is a present to Alfred A. Møller celebrating his 70 years birthday anniversary as this seems to be the kind of present from the guild to a good member :-)

franzw, Thank you so much for looking into this. :-)

So Malerlaug is a guild for painters in Copenhagen:

      https://kbh.malerlaug.dk/

      And apparently founded in 1622:

      *snip*

Copenhagen's Painters' Guild was founded in 1622. That was the year the king gave the Guild its meaning - and the concept, as they were then, of statutes.

      *snip*

The guilds naturally helped to protect the local market. Not every painter was allowed to set himself up as a painter in a city; he was required to be a member of the guild, which required certain qualifications and a somewhat violent admission ceremony.

If you were first a member of the guild, you could be sure of the colleagues' help and support - even to the master's widow, in the event of the master's death.
