Following Karen's query about Peloton glass, I'm following up with a post on the extreme variability seen in this decor.
The general definition of Peloton is that it is a decor composed of short, broken, randomly applied threads.
The very first Peloton glass was made by Harrach, but the decor was subsequently "shifted" by other manufacturers, in a variety of treatments. Harrach Peloton is typically a single colour - I have three known examples in all white, all pink, & all cobalt blue. I used to own a very large Harrach vase with all aqua blue threads as well.
Photos 1 & 2 show an assortment of Peloton glass from my extensive collection, showing some of the many variations in thread colour & texture. Some is quite wiry (straight - sided double crimp vase back left, & miniature Harrach pink threaded vase front centre). Others show various stages of blending into the surface. Five of these pieces are from the 19th century, & two date from the 1920s/30s era - the miniature oil lamp & recently acquired perfume bottle.
Photos 3 & 4 show a Peloton glass bowl from the later period of 192os - 30s. The threads are blended right in, showing no texture at all. Bold colours are a trademark of the Art Deco iteration of this decor, whereas Victorian Peloton typically uses pastel shades of pink, light blue, lemon yellow & white. Maker as yet unknown.
