This little funtoy from my 'neon light' collection *used* to be a Heineken beer sign, which I found on a curbside trashpile several years ago. It had been tossed because its majority tubing (reading the name, in white) was busted badly -- but this red star (6" or so) was still intact as was its high voltage transformer. Naturally, I rescued it from further complete oblivion, then kinda re-engineered it into what's seen here. ;-) :-)
The original label panel of the sign company that made it was kept and used on the back of the transformer (which has its own label too) to attach a simple metal bracket that uses some of the original plastic standoffs to hold the glass tube itself, the original leads from the transformer were long enough to connect to it and make it work. Technically the 7.5KV transformer is now way overkill (as it was meant to fire a couple additional feet of tube in the complete sign) but lights it up just fine, if anything it might run a bit warmer now than it used to, but isn't hurting itself or anything else by doing so. The transformer label has a printed date 0102, I presume that means it was made in January 2002, thus the Heineken sign would have been just a wee bit newer.
