Royal Canadian Mint Long Service Medal for only 15 years service. Massive bronze medal 60 mm in diameter and 7 mm thick. When such a medal is issued for only 15 years service it could mean that the employee started working there late in his life and hit retirement age or that he was not making enough money.

15 is a standard age for gov't to issue starting notifications. Some make it to retiring age of 30 - 35 yrs of service in Canada. Back then before 2000 medals like this - mostly pins were given. From 1990 there were more and more gov't positions being lost and offices closed than ever before !~

Thanks! That helps explain it but what are starting notifications?
