Beautiful if you can call a pipe that :-) ! called a "Meerschaum pipe" Love the carving . The finest of men smoked these :-)
Ronald_Brewen, Very interesting.
Here's an H. Mager (of Vienna) meerschaum pipe bowl in a leather case, albeit a much less elaborate pipe bowl:

This is a very beautifully colored meerschaum pipe bowl. This dates from the mid to late 1800’s. The pipe has what looks to be a silver ring around the top of the bowl and the end of the shank but I don’t see any silver marks. There is a coloring bowl fitted into the top and it has been in there so long that when removed there is some cork residue on the inside of the bowl, but that could be easily cleaned. I will leave that to the buyer. Case is marked H. Mager Wien.
Weight 1.1 oz.
Height with coloring bowl 3 in.
Height without coloring bowl 2.5 in.

And here's another H. Mager meerschaum pipe bowl:

It's not that I think yours is necessarily an H. Mager, but I do wonder whether there isn't a missing stem attachment made from some other material.
I really don't think there was a stem with it it wouldn't make sense if it were going to fit in your pocket I can understand a cork possibly it's just the uniqueness of it. I have yet to find someone that could estimated value on it either
