I collect Czech painted shades for pendant ceiling lights and I prefer scenery. This is an exception in that it's floral and probably pre 1918, so Bohemian. It's eight sided and the panels are delineated by a line pattern of painted rope. Under the main design the white opaline glass had been painted a creamy colour which, intentionally, varies slightly here and there. This would have given it a tastefully aged look from the start. There is a four letter code or name on one panel which seems to be either Umie or Umic.
Really love this one Peggy..
seems embroidery compliments
I'm pleased you like it, Penny. I wouldn't have liked to have been the one tasked with painting the rope detail.
Yes, Silvia, it does have a look of embroidery about it.
The light is very nice and the painting looks great in it.
Thank you, Iwona, the workmanship is excellent close up too.
This shade is beautiful, Peggy. I love old lamps and shades, and haven't seen one like it!
I'm appreciative of your opinion as I know you study lamps and shades. I did have a maker in mind but the code/signature on the outside would go against that. I'm not unhappy that it will remain unknown as most are.
