This is my favorite Welz décor so far, and I have kept an eye out for examples for ages. Thanks to a kind and sharp-eyed friend, I was finally able to add a piece to my own collection. This vase measures just under 6” (15.2cm) tall and has a lovely purple iridescence. The glass itself is very interesting, and is composed of red and clear glass with the red varying in thickness to create the mottled effect. When I showed my piece to Craig, he said he hadn’t seen an example of this decor in this shape before, which is always nice to know. :) I believe this piece dates to about 1900.
Lovely find, Michelle. Great start to the New Year too!
Thanks so much Peggy! I love it - it is such an interesting and beautiful decor. The mottling within the glass is just so unusual.
There does appear to be a very similar shape on kralik-glass.com under that Welz decor, with silver overlay... but perhaps it is different?
It doesn't surprise me that you love this decor, because to me it is very Rindskopf-ish.
Interesting comment WOW22 !!!!
Wow22, you are perfectly right that this decor has some of the things about it that I love about Rindskopf. I have thought about it, and I think it has to do with the texture of the finish, and the rich quality of the colors. Thank you! I will go take a look at the silver overlay piece you mentioned, too!
This is a raving beauty ,if I can say so about a vase:)More such beauties in the New Year,Michelle :)
Loving the rich, intense colours in this vase, Michelle! It seems to glow from within. The simple shape works perfectly by allowing those deep reds to work their magic...
great pieces both of them, here the rain is missing and there is water problems for people living in small country
Thank you so much, Ivonne. I hope you find some more beautiful glass in the new year, too! :)
Thank you, Marin! I really do like the shape and agree that it lets the glass take center stage.
Hi kivatinitz, thank you for your kind thoughts. I am sorry to hear about your lack of rain, too. We have been in a long drought, so I know how difficult it can be. That is why I am so thankful for any rain we get! I I really do hope that rain comes your way soon.
It is such a restrained but rich decor Michelle, I can see why it's a favourite.
Thank you so much Karen, I appreciate it!
