One may think I have posted this before. This one is an official Boy Scouts of America beret. The previous lacked that label seen in photos #2 and #3 and that is the big difference. The beret was official headgear for the Boy Scouts from 1973 until the early 1980s. Although I believe they switched to a baseball style cap before that. Note that once a uniform piece has been declared to be an official Boy Scout uniform item it can always be worn but the entire troop must wear it. Thus the previous beret which some scouts still wear to this day.
The beret was not popular as boys were not used to wearing one and weren't quite sure whatr to do with it. But now the US military has made the beret standard for troops so it could make a comeback.
