The Soldiers of the World series began in the 1990s when there was a renaissance of the 12" action figure. The quality on the early models was a bit low but they got better in the later figures like this one. On reflection I would have bought more of them. The prices on these we quite reasonable.
The appeal to this figure is that it is something other than the usual infantry soldier. No offense to soldiers. The figure is a landing craft crewman. Looks like he would be in an LVCP the most common type of landing craft. These carried a platoon (30ish) of soldiers or marines and had a crew of three sailors. These would be a coxswain, engineer, and crewman. The crewman would man one of the .30 caliber machine guns. I am thinking this figure looks more like the coxswain because he has a sidearm. The guy in charge tends to carry a sidearm.
I still have a bunch of GI Joes and other action figures to post. Seven to be exact so stay tuned.
What's he got? 1911 and kabar?
Very cool! I especially love pic #4.
