I found two small, framed Japanese woodblocks yesterday. This one shows a geisha holding her parasol in one hand and her other hand on one of the handles of two hidden swords - under her kimono. I'd love to know what the writing means or any other details. The image is approx. 7 inches by 4.25 inches.
i don,t know a samurai with wagasa , i thought it was Kunisada Utagawa, but it aint
role play maybe nitta yoshida, i just don,t know
Another great find. Maybe a kabuki actor?
yes, i think that this is a Kabuki actor. I think it is Utagawa Kunisada. It's just too similar to his work. Even the border is the same as the border of others i've seen by him. ditto for the expression on the actor's face and the way the kimono was painted and the lightning strike background too.
i Nagy from asian art forum has to do this, it does, not make sense for an koi zumo yawaragi soga unless they modified it ? i don,t know
do you think it could be ?gonsui daijin sakazuki, written by Tamenaga Shunsui? Something by Tamenaga Shunsui, i think.
