This small, controlled bubble Leerdam vase was designed by Andries Copier and is 4.5" high. It has the Copier Leerdam acid etched mark on the bottom and also what looks like 16-97-87 scratched on the bottom. The etched characters are indistinct so that is my best guess. The longer that I look at it, the more I imagine that there is something scratched between the Leerdam mark and the line of numbers, but I cannot make any sense out of it, if it is indeed there. The mark on this vase was used 1923-1945.

I have not been able to find other pieces of Leerdam glass which have both an acid etched mark and roughly scratched marks, too. Any ideas why this piece has both? Maybe I have just not looked at enough examples?

This vase has a lot of bottom wear. It is a pretty little vase and I do not have any Dutch glass in my collection, it was inexpensive ($12), is small and gave me an opportunity to do some research and learn a bit about this maker and designer so I grabbed it. Described only as "heavy glass vase". Clear/crystal vases seem to be rather less desirable from a quick bit of research. Really, most of what I now know about both, I found at the link below.

I love these pieces which have the controlled bubbles rather than where they are random !~

Sorry Kevin and Vynil33rpm's comments and loves were lost when my first post was deleted. Maybe Kevin's book gave more information about it?

Thanks for your comment PhilDMorris. No idea how the maker accomplishes complex controlled bubble work like this.

Thanks for loving my vase Vynil33rpm, Kevin, BHIFOS, jscott0363 and PhilDMorris!

cant see what i am doing wrong een s51 from 1936 i think the more claro emission probably, striae no sweat part of the proces , attrition no sweat
probably the former owner was the ultimate wacko , because the corners attrition can IMO only be caused by an harsh surface and we have to reinstate scafismo tortura for the former owner, well done , congrats

Thanks for the information, apostata! Yes, this vase was not well cared for. Hopefully this vase came from an estate sale so no effort will be needed to protect other art glass.

Thanks again Blammoammo! The condition turned out to be much better than expected, near mint except for the wear to the bottom. Will get new images soon.
