    Radierung "Beethooven" by Alois Kolb

    Artist: Alois Kolb
    Circa: 1909
    Titled: "Beethooven"
    Location: Wien (Vienna)
Subject: Created in response to Beethooven's 9th symphony.

Picked this up yesterday for $3. Has a little damage...there's a scratch through the arm of the upper figure and the folding and small rips that are outside the image. Most I've seen of this image are in octagon shaped frames.

If you zoom in, you can see the fine detail work. For the price, I couldn't pass it up. I plan on restoring it and framing it.

    ALOIS KOLB(1875-1942)
Alois Kolb was an Austrian etcher, painter and graphic artist. He worked on many projects including a 1930s German Stamp.

    A RADER-WHAT?
    Radierung is an etching.

Nice find ,,,,, in response to Beethoven’s ninth Symphony
In Four movements ,the fourth being the famous “Ode to Joy”
it was first performed in 1824 May 7
Beethoven was completely deaf ,he had his back to the audience
he hadn’t even realized that the symphony was over
the crowd was clapping and applauding
One of the musicians got his attention
for him to turn around ,he took his Bow
Beethoven did have in mind the freedoms and brotherhood
brought on by the French revolution when
he composed the ninth symphony but
      The artists rendering
is not what I think of when I listen

Thanks for the comments.. I believe it's referring to love and peace..

"The words in the final movement were taken from the "Ode to Joy" poem written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1785. The poem has a strong message to all mankind: it is about living in peace and harmony together."
