    Hi,

I recently bought this picture........because it spoke to me.
Don't know who this handsome guy is, though.
Does anyone know? Is he an actor? A famous singer?
    Thanks for looking,

    Nessa

There's some writing on the right side shoulder...what does it say?

At first I thought it was walt Disney, but his hair doesn't look right..

Erroll Flynn or Clark Gable on a bad day ? ...

Can't make out the writing even after doing some image manipulation. It might help if you took a close up of just the writing. You can add up to four images in your post.

DrNessa, I concur with kwqd; please add a close up of the handwriting.

He does look familiar, like perhaps some British actor from the 1930s/1940s, but I just can't quite place him. It's definitely not Errol Flynn or Clark Gable.

Just added some close-ups of the (very faded) ink handwriting.......can't make it out........can you?

DrNessa, It looks to me like it's wishing somebody named "Helen," good luck and success.

The surname of the writer looks like "Lowe." I can't make out the first. :-(

I probably should have recognized him, as I've seen "Dinner At Eight" many times, but with competition like Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Billie Burke, Marie Dressler, and Jean Harlow, Edmund Lowe didn't stand much chance of getting my attention:

DrNessa, This is about as close as I've been able to find to the pose in your picture:

However, there's no serious doubt in my mind that it's the same person. Mystery Solved?

      DrNessa, You're welcome. :-)

Thanks for marking it "Mystery Solved."

Your addition of close-up pictures of the inscription really did help, because once I could read the surname "Lowe," things fell into place pretty rapidly.

It's interesting to me to note the billing order on this promotional poster for "Dinner At Eight":

      https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/movie-posters/comedy/dinner-at-eight-mgm-1933-one-sheet-27-x-41-style-c/a/667-28692.s

Edmund Lowe edged out Billie Burke.

Modern movie enthusiasts are probably more familiar with Burke, perhaps by virtue of her having been immortalized as the Glinda the Good Witch of the North in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz," but to audiences in 1933, Lowe might well have been the bigger draw.
