Black Light Eastern Corporation
This is an industrial handheld black light used for various purposes including examining gem stones, crime scene investigation, etc.
I bought it because I thought it was unique. Seller told me it's finicky and sometimes works. It feels to me that the switches are going bad. They have the switch style that you have to hold...fluorescent style. You can see I opened it up..I don't think the wire tires belong in there
WHO DID THIS
"William H. Byler is credited with inventing the black light in 1935."
WHY BLACK...IS IT ON?
"Black light is called “black” because ultraviolet light is invisible to the human eye. If a black light only emitted ultraviolet light, it would be invisible. Most black lights appear blue or violet because they emit short wavelength visible light (blue to violet). This makes it possible to tell when the light is on."
Black Light Eastern Corporation
So far, haven't found their history...

dav2no1, Cool.
Black Light Eastern Corporation was a supplier for Telstar 1 & 2 (I gave the Google Book link a severe hair cut, so go to page 748):

They also had an ad in a 1959 edition of Billboard for technology to thwart gate crashers (page 99):

Their building in Port Washington has been repurposed as a child care facility:
4 Manhasset Ave, Port Washington, NY 11050

And Blak-Ray lights for amusement rides (page 98):

There are other interesting doodads out there, but I hit paywalls.
Woo hoo! Model 25-36:

The TIGER EYE TWIN, when equipped with the Battery Adapter Case model BA-245 (op-tional--$5.75) and two 45 volt 0202 "B" bat-teries (optional--$3.25 each) can be carried right into the field to give you on-the-spot information about the minerals you discover. Show your fluorescent min-eral collection to your friends at home. See the different fluorescent re-sponse of many minerals and how they "switch" colors under long wave and short wave ultra-violet.

Keramikos...thank you. It was a rough morning...does woke me up at 5am, couldn't sleep. Had taken pictures day before and hadn't had time to research. Had a childs chair I bought and the project was stuck in my head, trying to figure out how I was going to fix item previous owner had attempted repairs on and I had to fix and reassemble it. Wonderful information ...
dav2no1, You're welcome. :-)
Believe me, I know what it's like to be distracted/diverted.
I decided to have a look at the property records for that address in Port Washington, NY. Boy howdy, did Nassau County ever put me through the paces with their "check all the boxes" anti-bot routine, but I did finally get in there, and got some interesting tidbits (pardon the formatting):

It seems possible that the Black Light Eastern Corporation could have been around as far back as 1949, if building 4 was built for them. Buildings 1-3 were built later.
As I was posting and saw the address, I was thinking...I bet Keramikos finds a street view! You didn't disappoint...thank you for the great links. Answered some of the questions I had.
Yeah, I'm kind of addicted to Google Satellite & Street View. >8-0
So far, all of the hits for the Black Light Eastern Corporation I've found fall into the 1959 - 1964 range.
dav2no1, I'll probably stop pelting you with Black Light Eastern Corporation tidbits after this, but that adjective "Eastern" in the corporation name interested me.
That might have been put in there to distinguish it from west coast black light businesses, such as Black Light of America Corporation, and Ultra Violet Products Co.
The latter goes all the way back to 1932:
*snip*
Known for decades as Ultra Violet Products Co., UVP was founded in 1932 and remains headquartered in the greater Los Angeles area.

They actually trademarked the Blak-Ray name:

Ultra-Violet Products had a business relationship with Black Light of America Corporation (looks like maybe the former gobbled up the latter in 1956):
*snip*
Decided: September 11, 1961
On the same day Black Light Corporation of Los Angeles entered into an agreement with Black Light Corporation of America relating to cooperative advertising of the products of Ultra-Violet, which latter was the owner of all the outstanding stock of Black Light of America.

It's all too business-y for me.
