Anybody know what this is? I have not been able to find another one like it. Words are all fruits that are canned or jarred, are different on each side and are reversed as if they are to be pressed into something. The inside hole looks like a jar opening tool. No date, just PAT. APD FOR. Looks like cast iron or wrought iron. Approximately 3 3/8" outer diameter, and 2 1/4" inner diameter.
Neat little tool, but I'm not really sure what it is or what it is used for. Some kind of canning or jarring tool? But what would it press into?
I tried to go to an online expert for identification help and an appraisal but they didn't know what it was either other than a kitchen tool. Any thoughts?
BlackRiverAC, Interesting.
Yes, clearly meant to be pressed into something, and associated with produce:
GRAPE
PEACH
BLACK.B
GOOSE
STRAW.B
RASP.B
PEAR
QUINCE
PLUM
TOMATO
BEANS
CORN
CHERRY
PEAS
I have no idea how it was used, but it's very interesting.
KERAMIKOS is right ,it is very interesting
I think it is used for pressing
into the canning wax ( paraffin )
Maybe?
I agree with those comments. I think Vynil33rpm is right about pressing the works into paraffin.
Paraffin was a common way to seal canned foods.
Yes, I was thinkingbit was a jar opener. But that explanation makes sense..
