Curious about this piece and if it's a decent piece. I'm not sure on the base if it's original to it or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Love the base but its on from another style airplane ashtray. Beautiful. The glass "onyx" parts are original from what Metalcraft originally came out with. I hate to say much better than parts from 99% of what the states came out with but these were only made in Canada since about 1947 to about 1953. The decorative piece below the plane usually only went on the base of these but it does not look have offensive on this top. They made originally chrome cig box and ashtry to put on top of these Airplane table models. The airplane was not usually mentioned that it was made by Metalcraft and you might see other names like Electrolite which was basically all made by the Shapiro family who obviously had several names. It appears Harry Shapiro had a lot of boys working at the company along with a few of the offshoot companies such as Electrolite. I knew a bit more than probably the youngest grandson on the company. They appeared in the nations top major catalog companies such as Simpsons and Eatons first seen in a 1947 catalog, Eatons. Most people seem to want a rechromed model but I prefer to buy another identical ashtray bottom just for parts. Rechroming on these can be expensive but don't know a cheap good rechromer. Some can squeeze every penny from you.
Hi Phil. Thanks for all your knowledge. Turns out I missed out on this one. I'll keep looking for the one I love! Thanks again,
Dean.
