Member hotairfan showed us a most unique pliers type tool earlier today that's apparently a thing meant to help install something like *this* into the nostrils of a bull. <eeek>
Belonging perfectly in my collection of "why do I have *this*?" items, it is a solid brass ring about 2-1/2" across, fitted with a hinge on one side allowing it to open somewhat revealing a rather sharp (but also startlingly dull?!) point on the other side -- then presumably hotairfan's tool comes into use to clamp/pierce the animal's nose with it -- and then the small brass screw fastens it back into a solid ring.
OWWWCH . . .
Here's hotairfan's tool, for those of y'all that are following along at home: ;-)

AnythingObscure, Um, thanks for making my eyes water? };-)
Lol, Keramikos….I can’t stop giggling!
My first thought was about that little screw….how many times have I dropped a screw I was trying to install?? I’m imagining an ornery bull whose nostril I’ve just punched a hole in….bloody? Probably! And I’ve heard the term “slick as snot”……
I hope somebody developed a “screw-less” model!
<LOLOLOL> and THANK YOUS to keramikos and Watchsearcher for your comments that *did* literally make me "laugh out loud"?!! :-) :-) :-)
Thanks also, of course, to Vynil33rpm, Alfie21, jscott0363, Irishcollector., dav2no1, blunderbuss2, Watchsearcher, vetraio50, & kwqd for the <love it> button taps!
With further thought, I think I bought this on a whim when I discovered a small rack of 'em in a farm/hardware store somewhere years ago while looking for something else -- just because I'd never really seen such a thing in that setting anyway, and I thought they were pretty cool (yes, somewhat scary too?) and only cost a couple bucks or so...it didn't turn out to be a very good keyring/fob/hook, which is probably about the only thing I've ever tried to *do* with it...??
