This lovely early Loetz bowl is a nice size, at 8" (20.3cm) in diameter. It has a beautiful color that is very interesting; I believe the interior is Aurora (pink opal, spreading to light opal in the center) while the outside of the bowl is in a spreading reddish-orange pink. The rim of the bowl is clear glass. It has a finely polished pontil, and is marked III/26 which is Loetz's designation for a decoration number. The purple enameled leaves touched with gilt look lovely against the colors of the bowl; it dates to about 1890.
Really lovely Michelle, such pretty colours…
adore the enamelling in the second picture you can see the brushstrokes
Thank you Penny! You can see the Aurora interior a bit better in person. I like the colors too!
Thank you kivatinitz! I love the enameling too. The strokes are very precise, and the purple under gold is quite unusual - I think I have only ever seen this done on Loetz.
It is a beauty Michelle. It takes a lot of skill to get shading fade that good, and the enamel and pretty ruffled lip add to it's beauty.
Thanks so much, Karen. I am so glad you like it. I agree - the color transitions are so smooth and even! :)
Lovely and so nice to see the DEK mark so clearly. Congratulations!
Thank you Deb! :)
