This piece is 4.5 inches high. I don't know what the hole in the back is from - possibly where relics were stored there to bring this to life. I think Quanyin is quite old and either Chinese or Indian. Very heavy gilding has survived for a long time. What do you think?

i think that this is either Tang, Sui or possibly Korean from the same period - 600 - 950 ad more or less].

This is a Korean gilt bronze Buddha from the 7th-9th c. It is very unusual for having the left hand raised and the right hand down - a protective mudra, apparently. The hole in the back was for holding sacred relics or vows etc. The most unique feature is there are remains of an old seal with Korean symbols still visible on it. They refer to it being a medicine Buddha of some kind. it's really fascinating stuff as this period is when Buddhism was spreading from Korea to Japan, through these images and the dharma.

I think you should have this reassessed, i completely disagree , but i don,t want a quarrel , and i got no time
    5. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
I've shown it to several people who are familiar w/ Sui Dynasty Buddhas and they all agree that it is one. Peter Combs also gave it a thumbs up and did a short video of it.

if you are going to say something like that, you should have the decency to explain yourself. otherwise, you come across as an arrogant blowhard.

that one has the same mudras as mine does. apparently it means 'Do not fear' and 'you shall be rewarded' or something like that.

here's one w/ the mandorla attached.

and here's a similar one which is the exact same size as mine.

study the details and they are exactly the same as mine. some are fancier and very expensive too. but mine falls on the somewhat better quality than most of them in this timeline.

your point of view was that this is an Bhai?ajyaguru an medical Buddha , well it is not, and i thought that was obvious, so i asked for an reassesment , nothing wrong with that is,not , i did,not react further because i have been in ESTS ( epileptic status tonish clonic), i got an SUDEP risk kid !

actually i don,t think that i am arrogant , and i consider you as an friend,if that's not mutual, that's okay
    10. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
i've learned quite a bit since i first posted this. i know that it might not be a medicine Buddha as a Korean friend insists. But it was created probably in the Unified Silla period and i know that this one is right as rain. why don't you show us what you mean. some people justify their words when they say such things as you wrote here. the truth is that people say all kinds of things about these, and they were reproduced over the ages, but i think i can tell those ones right off - many done in the 19th c, but the verdigris and bronze corrosion on this one is perfect and not easy to replicate and many have tried.

some people justify their words when they say such things as you wrote here

well i am not one of those people , actually , when i am wrong , i admit that i am wrong as you might noticed, sometimes i got an whole team on your pieces, i almost had a day job to assess your stuff in the past, no sweat i did it gladly for you

actually your opinion was an Bhai?ajyaguru of 45000 dollars, well i disagree , count me out , you crossed borders Pete, pay 700 dollars for oxford date testing and 400 dollars for Standsford university

    12. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
I said that i was told it was a 'medicine buddha of some kind' which is true. and some people do refer to it as that, correctly or not. not sure about the other stuff you said, but i can't find it in our dialogue above and i didn't erase anything. and you are the only one who has mentioned a dollar amount here. i think you crossed a line. in this forum, we all give assistance as we want to. nobody is forcing us, but when you said i was 'completely wrong' and then failed to share your reasoning - still. i have no interest or need for date testing.
    13. apostata apostata, 2 years ago
i did not cross an line because it is no yaksayeorare unified silla, that will do 45000 dollar, but that,s semantics
    14. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
where do you keep getting this number from? you are the only one who keeps bringing that up. ?? but i did have it appraised and it ain't chicken feed!
    15. apostata apostata, 2 years ago
asked Peter Combs he is an genius although he is not bronze genius , asked it on bid it up com you are are comparing with this an three path buddha video and yaksayeorare buddha

if you call a dog a cat is ok with me, but don,t bother me any more, i worked my a,, off for you the last two years

      yours truly arrogant Waki
    16. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
i did ask Peter Combs and he sent me a video of him talking about it. i don't know what you are referring to when you say 'you are comparing w/ this an three path buddha...'
    17. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 2 years ago
i am referring to a video Peter Combs did where he was assessing and appraising my piece. three path buddha...?

i would like to apologize to apostata here. i feel dumb when i can't follow your logic, but i'm sure that it is my singular vision which is blocking me. it's frightening to me to have such a different perspective, but i wish there were more places i could access to get some real info about a number of my pieces, but i so often am left hanging. i've been studying these Buddhas from the Suii dynasty. I believe that these very feminine buddha figures gave birth to Quanyin. all this is so interesting and i do really appreciate that which i understand as your input. It is a very special piece to me and holds a prize place in my living room shrine.
    19. apostata apostata, 12 months ago
well there is nothing to apologize, stick to Peter , he is the better assessor most likely, no sweat

it is not an easy bail out, but i got serious medical problems, but for your consolation , most of the time i can,t follow my own logic any more due to medicins

please tell the other subscribers not to remove my mnemonics, i lost already so much coherence
