Staying in the PINK!
This one was not simply a nice find, but a meaningful one as well.
After two years of cancellations, I was finally able to attend my favourite monthly antiques fair last weekend. All of us have known the sadness of not being able to take part in the activities & events we enjoy over the last two years. It meant so much to me, & everyone else, stallholders & customers alike, to have our beloved fair return this month. I was in a state of pure elation as I walked through the doors!
And the positive atmosphere was palpable among the crowd - so many happy faces. For me, the fair being three days out from my birthday (which is today), it was like the party had begun early.
This was one of a few things I purchased, an elegant Victorian vase of outstanding quality.
It is made from two layers of cased glass - a "spreading" pink over a white interior. The form is simple yet unusual - the flattened sides add a point of difference. The vase measures 16 cm tall, 5 cm across the cut & polished top rim, & 5 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark. There is a touch of gilding on the top rim, & from the neck down, the front of the vase has fine raised enamel decoration of flowers. Overall, it is heavy & substantial for its size.
I think it is most likely of Bohemian origin...& maybe...early Loetz?
Happy birthday Marin!! What a lovely way to kick off your special day. I can just see all of those smiling faces in your post; the joy at being able to do something normal again after all of this is huge. And now you have this lovely pink vase in your collection to remind you of that happiness. :)
