8 19th Century French LES SPORTS Creil & Montereau hors d’oeuvre plates, made in circa 1886, in a set of eight, depicting Les Sports. Each of these figural cabinet plates have black & white transfer printed illustrations surrounded by a floral border. Story plates, or "Assiettes Parlantes" {talking plates} were produced by many fine faience houses in the mid to late 1800's.
My favorite is the Zeppelin with the Eiffel in the background.
Measure: 6-1/2".
They're all amazingly beautiful! I especially love the "Bicyclette" plate in pic #4.
jscott,
Thank you! They are all pretty cool...
These are all lovely, such interesting different vignettes - yes the zeppelin flying above Paris is so cool!
Newfld,
Thank you! They fit perfectly on the old German painted shelf I posted previously...just enough room.
Top notch ! Thanks for sharing.
blunder,
Many thanks!!
well it is always nice to have some nostalgia, this must be exactly to date exactly on the date but i haven,t seen the mark and i am awfully lazy
i haven,t deeply scrutinize this but some remarks
this is probably terre de verre marking in blue , can,t be early depose marking the theme is different , the color is different, the most important reason is the missing of the barb wire inner and outer circle , let,s say the qianlong imitation steal
imo all of it is likely late fine de siecle so after the famous fire, the theme is known to be late and the subjects changed due caused by the urge to exploit and the glorification of the industrial revolution ( +latency period)
so haven,t done much research on it but this must be 1895 on releases
addendum the Eiffeltower was made in 1889
cute plates
ty for the photo,s it seems i was right , not an achievement of me by the way , because it was a no brainer by style, ty for the team effort
best regards Waki
