I found this at a flea market in San Francisco. I am thinking it's either an incense burner or a cooking device. It is about 10 inches diameter and 2 to 3 inches deep. Does anyone recognize it?

Ink well? Maybe for calligraphy?
Is it made of cast iron? I was going to guess it might be something that'd fit on top of an old woodburning cook stove, at least until I realized those marks on it look like little crabs...which wouldn't seem like it'd be a common marking for an old stove...??
Might also be a glue pot...
RichardSchaeffer, can you describe the 3 pics in a little bit of detail, please? In your comment you speak singularly (It). Pic #1 appears to be one piece (similarly to an inkwell) with the pot in the middle. Pics 2 & 3 seem to be two separate pieces OR front AND back of another piece. How are these put together to make an IT? So could these be part of a crabber’s fishing or fresh-catch storage equipment possibly? Thanks for sharing. Are there any marks, numbers or letters anywhere on these pieces other than the crabs? If so could you please take a close-up picture of any marks you find and add to this post, please? You’re allowed up to 4 photos and also you can delete and replace any or all 4 pics at any time. I’m sure someone on CW has a clue for ya. Thanks again, Richard!
Butter Melting pot/lid, maybe missing a stand? Just a thought! Bill :^)
