My railroad collection wouldn't be complete without a few locomotive Whistles being represented. Here are five that I have. The first photo shows three PRR 3 Chime Whistles. Two of them are complete and one is missing its valve assembly but was modified at some point in the past for future use on a steam tractor, which never was fully realized. The bottom whistle is marked with locomotive numbers. It was once used on #5343, a 4-6-2 K4s class as well as #6998, a 4-8-2 M1 class loco. The other two are unmarked as to what locos they were used on. The second photo shows a whistle used on the B&O 2-8-8-4 EM-1 Class. This is a very rare surviving example of this Natham made whistle. Only 3 are known to survive from the fleet of EM-1s. It is a single chime "hooter" whistle. Lastly another representative of the B&O, their standard straight valve 3 Chime. Shown missing the lever but it now sports one.
I love steam whistles ....... I can't get enough of them
Me too! I have a few others in my stuff. A 5" diameter Penberthy from whatever, factory, tractor, or ?. I also have a 5" whistle that has no marking as to maker Are you knowledgeable to take a stab at id-ing it? I'll post a photo of those shortly in a new post.
What’s a train without a whistle?!!!! Love them!
