I just inherited my great grandfathers 8 day watch. It’s a bit beat up, but it still runs and I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I don’t know the age of the case, but I’m told the watch is 119 years old. I’m assuming the case is too, because it’s original to the watch. The picture is great grandpa holding it
It is what it is, not expensive watch but surely sentimental, I prob wouldn't change dial
Oh I definitely won’t. It’s a good heirloom for my nephew. There aren’t many people left in my family, so he'll be glad to have it.
jlennongrrl, That is so cool that you not only have your grandfather's watch, but a picture of him holding it. <3
Per this database, that serial number (1659465) would be from 1903 (so yes, it would be 119 years old in 2022):

Nice watch to have, the family history just makes it fantastic!
jlennongrrl, Whoops, that is to say, your great grandfather. >8-0
I think the picture of him proudly displaying it, and the wear on the case suggest that he really loved and used this watch; it wasn't just something he had been given and then tossed into a drawer. <3
