Sergio found this vase on Marketplace very near to our home, he paid U$ 30 for it a month ago.
I had already posted other two smaller Moorcroft vases, this is really hughe 22cm of high, the cylindrical shape is not so common. The colors and textures are really amazing when you have this on your hands. I am not sure about the date but because it says Burslem England incised into the clay it could be a piece made for export from 1916 to 1918 when the words “Made in” were added. It has no chip.
By 1910 the Pomegranate and Spanish patterns had laid the foundations for the style, however in 1912 Macintyres decided to cease production of ornamental ceramics and William took the opportunity to set up his own company, with financial support from Liberty of London. He was allowed to continue production of many of the designs; Pomegranate was so successful that it remained in production altogether for nearly thirty years. Moorcroft has never been cheap, each piece being entirely hand made and hand decorated in a lengthy process, but no other pottery is as instantly recognisable for its clarity and brilliance. The production process is complex and often uncertain - pieces of the same pattern can emerge from the kiln with very different colour balances. In this particularly the colors and details are outstanding.
Karen has posted a very similar one but smaller
