Is it possible that instead of AI or DI there is an M written?
I myself was thinking of Marmaduke Matthews (1837-1913) but I'm not completely sure. Marmaduke Matthews signed in different ways but I don't know if all the paintings on the internet attributed to him are actually his.

I think the initial letter is an M too.
