These are all a little smaller at 8-1/2" across and also not quite as deep as the one single similar I just showed, they are also made of much thinner glass with ball shaped handles -- and there are six of them. Thus I'll guess they might have been intended to cover fancy salad or dinner plates for formal presentation or somesuch, instead of any more general restaurant/diner usage -- but I don't know.
AnythingObscure, Given the diameter of these domes, I'd say that you're on the right track in thinking that they were meant to cover individual servings of something, e.g. Faisan Sous Cloche (Pheasant Under Glass):
