Picked up this 1954 New York City Subway System Map, in original frame. Heavy duty wood frame and thick glass. Frame shows holes where it was screwed to the wall. I wonder where this might have been post ? Since I collect vintage maps and early Baseball memorabilia. This hits both marks.

      Foundaroundtown, Cool. :-)

Love me some old maps. <3

If you look at the copyright information, it's no older than 1954, but that's plenty old.

It sounds like it could have been posted anywhere in NYC back then, because it shows the whole system?

You can buy this as a jigsaw puzzle:

Cool vintage map! A year after it was made, in 1955, Randalls Island and Sunken Meadows Island, the one to the east of it, were joined by infilling the channel between them (and later on they were joined with Ward Island to the south) under the Triborough Bridge. A year after that, in 1956, Bedloe’s Island was renamed Liberty Island for the famous statue shaped lighthouse located there. And, yes, you hit a triple with Yankee Stadium, Ebbets Field, and the Polo Grounds on the map (but no Shea Stadium for another decade yet). Also interesting that the Williamsburg Bridge was misspelled with an -h at the end, which was officially removed a hundred years prior but persisted in some records.

Wow, MMNJ, those are some excellent historical tidbits.

Here's one (about the Williamsburg(h) Bridge:

      *snip*

The Williamsburg Bridge was one of the last major bridges designed for the horse and carriage.
