Here's an amazing Loetz cachepot in Diana green. The dragonfly and waterlily enamel is raised, intricate and painted in gold and silver.
There is no indication of a DEK number on the bottom. This shape is similar to PN I-1808 ca. 1895ish which was produced in Diana green. This awesome piece has 4 large indentations, no pontil and a cut rim. It is 7" wide by 7" tall. It arrived with a strange haze on the exterior, most of which I was able to remove. It is in amazing condition!

On an aside, I don't know how many CW Loetz folks remember MALKEY? A fan of Bohemian glass who posted often until late 2020. He was a very colorful man who struggled mightily with life and was appreciated for his poetic posts of glass.

I am asking if anyone knows of his whereabouts or health. I find an obituary from Newcastle, on Tyne dated 12-15-2020 and hope it is not our MALKEY. Thanks all for your help and I know he would've loved this cachepot.

      Great find! Congrats!

Sure I remember MALKEY. He used to post wonderful pictures with the river Tyne and the Tyne Bridge in the background. I sincerely hope he’s okay…

Your cache pot is lovely! Of course, I'm in love with the dragonfly ;-))
The fluffy samoyede puppy is highly enjoyable too :-D
I miss Malkey's posts... I hope he is still alive :-\

Thanks Laura! Thanks kyratango! The dragonfly motif is what caught me! My puppy is now 11 mos old; her name is Lily.

I too miss MALKEY's creative posts. I fear he might be gone as the day on the death notice was Dec 15 and as you may recall he had a particular affinity for "1412", as he called it, Joan of Arc's birthday. So sad to contemplate...

This is a beautiful piece! The raised enamel work is amazing, especially on the dragonflies!

I think about Malkey quite often, and would love to know if he is all right. I know he was often in a hospital, and the Covid cases were so bad in the UK…but I always hope he made it through.

I just love this one! It is amazing in so many respects. The DEK looks pristine. I am glad you were able to get the marks out. I have seen marks like this before and believe it is caused by leaving bubble wrap on glass in a hot environment. Congratulations! A keeper for sure.

Thanks Deb. Yes, the DEK is fantastic with even the tiny wisps of legs still visible. The only rubbing is on the bodies were I guess many people have touched the dragonflies. The haze appeared to be off-gassing from a plastic grocery sack. I tried acids, bases, oils, organic solvents then went with light polishing with a 1500 grit pad and Wright's polishing compound. The haze came off without damaging the glatt finish.

It looks fantastic with a plant pot set in it.

      1412 - that’s exactly what I thought.

I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’ve wondered for a long time what happened to Moonstonelover21. She had an amazing collection art glass / Loetz and jewelry. I loved to read her posts and all of a sudden they stopped. Do you happen to know something about her?

I did not know Moonstonelover21. Perhaps another CW fan can provide info as to her whereabouts?

Laura, Moonstonelover21 is fine, from what I have heard. I believe she sold her glass collection and she is no longer collecting glass, and is not active in any glass groups that I know of.

I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you, Michelle!

Hi all, I have some very sad news to confirm; a friend of Malkey's let me know via email that he died on December 12, 2020. He was, in addition to being an art glass collector, an avid bottle digger and collector, and was very active in his area; he had many friends who loved him and miss him. Let me know if you would like to see a few tributes/photos that friends put together of him, and I will be happy to share them with you via email.

Sad news indeed. Thanks Michelle for tracking that down.

Michelle, thank you for letting us know.
That is so sad, a lot of us appreciated his creative photos and beautiful pieces, as much as his personality.
Maybe a tribute post with the photos his friends shared would be a nice memento?

Hi kyratango, I asked the person who made the photo collage for his permission to post it but haven't heard back from him yet. I think a post for malkey would be a nice idea!
