One of my latest vases is an example that is also shown in Dr. Kai Hasselbach's article on Early Loetz Production on Loetz.com. Apparently, a twin to my vase is also in the Passau Glass Museum. My vase consists of an opaque white inner layer of glass that is cased in a combination of pale pumpkin, orange-red and tan pieces of glass that together resemble agate in appearance. The shards of glass used actually remind me of some Welz pieces in their appearance, too. Unusually, I don't believe it is cased in clear glass, but in translucent amber glass. The enamel work around the upper body of the vase is quite thick, with the areas of applied and melted frit being gilded. The rim is cut and polished, and also finished with gilt. The vase measures 5-1/2" (13.9cm) tall.

Interestingly, a few months ago I came across a pale pink and blue version of the same decor on LiveAuctioneers.com. It was not attributed, but definitely the same decor, just in different colors; the third photo shows this example.

      Wonderful find, Michelle!
Interestingly, I have an item with the same pink/blue spatter as the vase you saw on Live Auctioneers! It's a large fairy lamp dome with no base. The spatter is swirled on my example, but the distinctive muddy yellow - green colour is also there. I have tons of spatter glass, but had never seen another example of this decor...

Beautiful! There is also an example of this decor in the Loetz early Loetz case at the PGM.

Hi Marin, thank you! That is very interesting about your fairy lamp; I know that Loetz made them, as I have seen a few, but not in those colors. Thanks for pointing it out to me!

Thanks so much Deb, that's great to know! It looks like it fits in with the period when they were making glass in stone-like decors, such as the Carneol and Marmoriertes type of glass.

This reminds me also, a little, of some Welz spatters which, again, were sometimes cased in clear amber glass. Welz perhaps imitating Loetz???

Love that another one has been found. I posted mine here about 3 years ago, but your pictures capture the colors better. My pictures came out dark. Harrach also made a decor like this one using the same white inner with the red spatter and amber outer. The difference is they pulled the red shards just like they did in their Jaspis decor. Welz's version looks the same when looking straight at it, but the construction is different with a yellow inner, then thin white with the red spatter and cased in clear. I found while looking online some time ago, totally by accident, that there is a natural jasper stone that looks almost exactly like this decor. I was really surprised when I saw it. Recognized it right away.

Thank you Wow22, I agree - it reminds me of Welz, too. But I think the enamel work is quite different, and points to Loetz in this case. :)

Thanks so much JimTim! It is great to see your example, too - thank you for pointing it out. It is also very interesting that Harrach and Welz made versions very similar to this, too. I am going to go look at some real jasper now, based on your comment!
