I bought this marvelous little objet d'Art sometime in the 90s, and have never regretted the expense, which was, to a student me, substantial—I think in the neighborhood of $450. It was made in Indonesia by an expat from either America or the UK, I don't recall, but my bet's on the USA.
I love this tchochke's naturalism, and the very animate demeanor of the frogs. Their mother-of-pearl eyes are so alive, their bodies so perfectly dynamic, one almost expects at least one of them to hop away.
The piece measures 3.5" long by 1&5/8" wide, and it stands approximately one inch tall.
Weight: 24.4 grams.
I'm curious...you said, "made in Indonesia by an expat from either America or the UK"? Did you meet the artist? Because Indonesia has some amazing carvers. A quick search reveals several similar Indonesian pieces.

I distinctly recall the gallerist telling me tha she had an exclusive arrangement with a Richard somebody (I believe) so that she dealt everything he carved that she fancied. He did have one case reserved for him.
Well this is bizarre, but I have a friend who lives in Ubud on Bali and he is a designer who collaborates with some of the local artisans to produce carvings and lots of beautiful stuff. His name is Richard Leavitt. He's an older man and i've known him since i was around 12 yrs old. He's been in Ubud for a very long time now.
Ho2...interesting..can you ask him if he made this? If she could attribute it to him, it may be more valuable?

How very interesting! Might you ask your friend Richard if he made this carving? Because I would dearly love to be able to attribute it. AND see his other work, even if it weren't he!
