this thing was on top of a hill mounted on a post drawing in lighting like crazy and was undamaged. There did not seem to be a cable channeling the electricity anywhere. There are markings for adjustments or fine tuning. I can not find anything about it through the company history.

Welcome to CW. You can upload up to 4 pictures. It would be nice if we could see a few better pictures of the object.

Welcome also, and I agree with Dave that we need another photo or three. From what I can see in the current pic, it looks more like some kind of sundial or weather measuring instrument instead of a lightning rod, even if it was mounted someplace where it kinda did both tasks...knowing its maker's company name would also help us...

PS -- would you also show/tell us more about that shiny spiky roundish thing beside it on the LH side of the pic -- that thing looks fun, too...? <lol> :-) :-) :-)

It’s a sunlight recorder, Campbell-stokessphere, records the amount of sunlight throughout the day. The other is a Rolls Royce Pegasus titanium turbine.

VERY COOL INFO, JEllington -- thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

So if the instrument was mounted and likely there for collecting data for a scientific purpose, shouldn’t it get put right back where it was??

Very interesting piece. Would live to find one for my collection. And Watchsearcher. .if you read the link, it needs a special card to record the information daily.

This is a great forum! I am in agreement with it bring a sun measuring device. the one in photo is in a collector's store. My friend has one and I simply had to find out!
I he sends me more photos, I shall further them on. And, yes, he probably should have left the instrument, but he was "BLINDED BY THE LIGHT"
