Picked up at thrift store, think the second one is japanese, not sure on first one but maybe chinese? Am seeking info about age, origins , thanks in advance. They were bought months apart, not together. Lo
sorry i neglected you , but i got a lot problems i got no knowledge at all of this, i think they are both, japanese
i probably far off . what i wonder , we have spurs on the back , and we got an brown erosion of the baking flaws, why can,t this be EDO BLUE but i got no substantiation
the second as an mystery , can,t find this , i don,t know this well that does not mean much , i don,t know 99 % of the japanese PORCELAIN , but even the japanese can,t read the kanji
sorry for neglecting you but i have many problems i have no knowledge of this at all i think they are both japanese,
I probably far away. what i wonder, we have marks on the back, and we have brown erosion from the firing flaws, why can't this be EDO BLUE, but I have no substantiation
the second as a mystery, can't find this, I don't know, t know this well, that doesn't mean much, I don't know 99% of Japanese PORCELAIN, but even the Japanese can't read the kanji-- sorry my brains are Dutch Peasoup
Thank you, Aposta, for taking time to look and share what you know. As of now I'm keeping the unsolved mystery status, until I can learn more. I only paid 7.00 for first one, and 4.00 for 2nd one, but I love them, and keep them out so I can enjoy looking at them, and wondering where they may have been all the years!
pissed to difficult for me, i have sampled an awefull lot of kiln spurs ( stilt marks)
did some nendo tracking ( =sedimentation of clay stilt marks)it looks like clean impress and the shape of the inside denting looks different , makes it spurious
did,not trust the buildings ( so called japanese westernising, in stead of the native archaic way , it is possibly the faked an japanese edo the 20 century way
Apostata knows a LOT about Asian pottery despite his denials. The mark on the base kind of looks like modern Juzan Gama. Whenever i see a mark like this, i know it is Japanese. It probably says something like 'made in the time of the Ming emperor' or something like that, but as apostata said, probably nobody in Japan or China can actually read it.
good remark juzan gama second plate , i thought i checked it , it does, not look an early signing , don,t know the signature
maybe Xuan Chang Yao signed PETE
say for discussion sake i am right PETe , which i don,t but an education guess , but there is no stroking in the mark , my eyes , you have to be my eyes PEte, I think they tilt a pressing ( uneven pressure), this must be SHOWA period , IMO late SHOWA
we need Sandra for this
still don,t know the first plate but must be old because the kilnspurs got inside, dimpling EDO period ?
no it is genuine meji period see ebay Japanese Blue and White Large Plate w/ Mountains and Village seller plv 95 on ebay from Kingston see typical borders obverse and it also explains the inside dimpling of kilnspurs , seller is solid all his assesments were sound
could the first plate be Nabeshima? i'm not very educated on this, but it kind of reminds me os some i've seen.
well old nabeshima ( so called origianal okawachi) are almost never blue and white porcelain
they are polycolored and the depiction is mostly flowers in overglaze and light blue underglaze
and if they are blue white porcelain ( very seldom) the underglaze is more prominant , and the contrast between the types of cobalt is more prominant
so we are most of the time to a flower design in Nabeshima , but second we could also be committed by means of the classic textilesand obi design design
some people state look here i got a bottle or double gourd design well the rest is classical like pseudo waves , or an type of four leaves clover design
so this certainly not nabeshima
addendum i bought an nabeshima after 42 houres of study, a Daimin seika nensei' the japanese equivalent of the chinese Chenghua Nian Zhi ( an so called revival piece), to lower the risk of fakes, and the kilnspurs were wrong
moral of the story we will all get there at the end , don,t worry, and we all makemistakes , and i make an awfull lot of them , it is all in the game
greeting WAki
