Trying to figure out where the dresser came from it was given to me. Or what type of wood it is on how best to preserve, or do you re-finish it.

Welcome to CW. Im not a furniture expert, but know some stuff. It appears you have a curved front low boy.
Looking at the grain pattern...looks very uniform, I suspect it may be faux graining, something thats been done for a long time. An easy way to check is to look at the inside of the drawer. If the grain has the same pattern as the outside(same direction) then its real.

You can edit your post and add up to 4 images total. A picture of the drawers would help. Are there dovetails, box joint, finger joints or just nails?
As for restoration, it's important to determine if there's a veneer. It looks like there's some paint and other stuff on the finish. If you're keeping the look, you don't want to sand through a veneer.
I like thus stuff..easy wipe on wipe off application. Comes in several different colors, depending on what you want. I would suggest the darker colors for your piece.

Is it veneer and if veneer has it lifted? or looks like solid quarter sawn oak? You can do 3 more pics! Show sides of drawers and back. Don't refinish. In my opinion!! I use a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar 1/3 turpentine 1/3 mineral oil mixed applied with a very fine steel wool or clean cotton rag. Wipe it down. Smells Nice and hides scratches. Others may have good ideas.

Thanks for your replies. I added some more pics.
Nice piece well worth cleaning up. It's veneer so be careful. Use Howard's or try my homemade stuff. You should be able to find replacement's for missing brass keyhole protectors on eBay. Like your Horse shoe folk art piece on the floor. Let us know how it goes and if you have anymore???

Well now we see it has a manufacturing label. What does it say?
Thanks, and it's mostly worn off. I've looked everywhere else for identifying info. But it just say NO 7A
Lot 225
236
Well since we now know it was commercially manufactured, there probably isn't a lot of value there. So restore it and enjoy it for what it is. A functional, decorative piece.
