Today, rummaging through the thrift shop I came across this old wooden spoon. It has an old photo of a man and torch on the spoon.
I don’t know if it’s for decoration or if this is a tradition? Has anyone else seen one of these?
Did you buy it? What an odd piece..I couldn't have left it there.
I tried to understand what it meant. The little torch..not sure? The Olympics torch represents the light of spirit, knowledge and life.
And traditionally the giant wooden spoon represents having good health and a prosperous family.
But this spoon is funky. The left side reminds me of the top of an M-16 rifle(handle and heat shield). On the right side it appears(picture not so great) a round black peg or remains from something else? Maybe a medal was there? It appears to be one piece, so I don't suspect a dowel and its the only one visible?
On the other end of the spectrum.this odd tradition...a wooden spoon is an award that is given to an individual or team that has come last in a competition.
The torch, the colors of the Italian flag?
Wow! Such great comments! I thought of Italy and Dav Your input is super! It could be Welsh?
