This was a super op shop find from earlier in the week, a mere $4 for a huge piece of Victorian art glass - couldn't believe my eyes!
Not that I really needed a HUGE piece of glass, but seriously, how could I leave this on the shelf? I'd not been having the best of days (just had a blood test for one thing) so to score a bargain was a nice little boost.
S0 - it is made from a single layer of powder blue glass with a satin finish, & measures 30 cm tall, 15 cm across the top rim, & 14 cm across the base. The top rim & base both feature cut edges, a style seen on earlier Victorian art glass, including some items by Harrach.
Obviously this vase is in need of some replacement lustre drops (working on that presently). It will look pretty fab once I've got those sorted. The gilding is a bit suspect, I think it has been "retouched" somewhat inexpertly. I've actually cleaned some of the excess off as it was rather untidy looking. Otherwise it is in great condition for its age with no chips or cracks.
I think this is possibly Bohemian origin, maybe by Harrach, circa 1860s - 70s.
Season’s Greetings MARIN !!!!!
Very nice!! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
It would work well as a stand for some of your other, smaller, OTT pieces.
I hope all is OK Marin and 2023 is a better year for you!
What a sweet and magical glow on this! I'm sure you'll restore it gloriously.
Merry Christmas Marin!
