This was a rocking chair my grandmother purchased. She bought it from Baltimore auction house in the 1940 or 1950. My mother had all the information under the seat but another family member ended up with it and replaced it. We seem to remember the original seat was filled horse hair or something like it. I love this chair and it's about to be mine. I just want to find more about it if anyone can help. I would like to know what it's worth. I don't want to sell it.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, the info got put under the fabric when the seat was replaced.
If it were mine, I’d pull those tacks out and take a look under the fabric. Then I’d get busy and reupholster it with something bold and bright and beautiful! You can probably tell I love it .
It’s a beautiful, comfy looking chair.

Its an American Empire chair, circa 1870 to 1900, and love those scroll arms which were also used during the Regency period in the France.
Yes my mom confirmed last night that she could remember its American Empire. Yes I agree I will have the seat replaced correctly with something that does it justice. Unfortunately the information isn't in the seat.
As a little girl it was my favorite place to seat so I'm grateful it's going to be in my home.
I have searched and searched and can't find anything like it. Thank you both for the information.
