I posted this a while ago, but now i have more room to display and photograph it. I found this for sale in a futon shop which also sold antiques in San Francisco. They closed a while back, but they gave me a great deal on this table - which i like a lot.

How was it determined to be of Japanese origin?
It was purchased in Japan by the owners of the Futon Shop / Antique store. They told me that it was made for a particular home in the 50s or 60s.
