Tangoes, Given the weight and the possible metal content (silver), I tend to doubt that their intended use was as clothes pins:

      *snip*

Q: How much does a clothespin weigh?

A: Mostly, a regular clothespin weighs around 0.264 ounces.

      *snip*

      Although:

      *snip*

These clothespins for hanging laundry are all-natural and made of wood, and they are lightweight and weigh around 13 ounces.

I don't think anybody would want to use something as heavy as 10 ounces as clothes pins, plus silver would tarnish easily coming into contact with wet clothes.

Dunno about the metal content, though. It's long been customary for silver, sterling or otherwise, to be marked with the actual amount of silver content.

Paper clips seem more likely to me.
