This figurine was purchased in Rafaela along with other things from Mauricio Adari, I think it was in the year 2017.
Figurine is glazed in ivory and gilt depicting a mother reading a tale to her child before going to bed. The little boy is wearing the sleeping gown and they are both looking to what seem a nice illustration on the book…. That’s what I imagine.
It measures 13.5 cm high, there are several details interesting in the dress and bench, i.e. the laces of the corset can be seen at the back and in the faces some features such as the mouth, eyes and eyebrows have been highlighted with gold.
It is marked with the incised backstamp of Scheibe-Alsbach, and perhaps there is a 5 under the mark. I think that is old not only because of the S mark but because of the shape of the base, newer ones has not the central hole, also because of the hole in the head of the child and the ununiformed ivory glaze, modern ones are in white and gold. I think that probably was done around 1920.

Newfld, Karen and Tamasue I agree with both of you, yes this character reminds me of the loving moments when my aunt taught me to read, I had four years and she was only eleven at that moment.
