This circa 1890-1900 Japanese Meiji bowl is about 8.5" in diameter and 1.5" high. It is hand painted but is not marked. Thanks to apostata for his identification. No idea who made it.
It has a lot of damage, a couple of cracks starting at the edge, a couple of chips on the rim, a chip on the base.... It is also pretty poor workmanship; the medallion is off center, some of the chips on the rim were apparently there before it was fired as they are glazed, there are smudges in the paint on the top and bottom, there are bubbles in the glaze on the top side. If you set out to make a poorly made piece of pottery, this would probably be a good example to follow. Not sure why it is soooo bad.
I was looking for a bowl with a bit of character to toss my keys and change into and this one certainly has a lot of that. Goodwill find for $1.44 plus tax today.
I went to four thrift shops today and found this at the fourth one, at the first one I found a great USA made stainless steel skillet by Carico (stainless steel clad aluminum), at the third one, another industrial style table on wheels to use in my kitchen and a signed Corning Glass bowl that an engraver used for practice at the third one. I think I spent under $10, total.

so you get a split or implode , and the implode by means of pitting is flooded , so this real
the reverse kilnspurs are out ( weak determinant , but the multicolour floral design is IMO meijji, IMO late Meijji 9 something 1890 or 1900 flat
the quality of this piece is not zum himmel hoch jauchzend
It has a certain charm! And I think you did good getting it for what it cost, given that goodwill here, at least, has recently gone insane with pricing, on top of which they're holding out just about anything worthwhile to sell in their online shops.

A mission of mercy it was, mikelv85! I will probably hang it on the wall, instead of using it for a key container. It has suffered enough!
