Some folks may recall my posts from last year regarding what I like to call "Anxious Objects" - antique glass novelty items that depict forms such as hammers, swords, tomahawks, axes, etc.
This is my latest addition to the collection, & one that I think is possibly quite rare - a glass corkscrew!
Like most of my best finds, this one came when I wasn't looking for it...just through a general search for Victorian glass.
Found on eBay UK, this item is made from clear glass, & measures 10 cm across the handle, & 14 cm in length from the top of the handle to the point of the "screw".
A beautiful, handmade piece, most likely English origin, though exact age & maker is uncertain.
Last photo pictures it with a small glass hammer, also found on eBay UK.
I was opening a dresser once that had glass handles..one side broke and cut me up. So yes ...I understand "anxious" with these items.
Sorry to hear of your glass related misadventure, dav2no1, & thanks for the comment & love!
how interesting I had never heard about these objects....
I'm anxious looking at this.
What were they thinking?
Many thanks, kivatintitz!
Thanks slso, Karen!
Yes, this is the definition of an anxious object to me. Just to even contemplate using for it's intended use gets me feeling stressed. I was also hoping that the seller would do a good job of packing it, & thankfully, they did - double boxed for its trip from the UK...
