1970s NHRA The "Cheetah" owned and tuned by Alan Tschida
I know there's a few drag racing fans here in CW land.
Pic taken by me (1970s) in the Brainard MN Paddock Area
I love the NHRA Funny Cars.... Especially the Old School 1970s (They actually looked like production cars back then)
I probably enjoyed the time in the paddock area watching the mechanics rebuild and tune the cars....more than watching them race :)
The "Cheetah" was owned and tuned by Alan Tschida, who began racing in California before moving to Minnesota. The first "Cheetah" Vega funny car (as one in my pic) was raced in the mid-seventies with Carl Swanson driving. Swanson would occupy the seat of Tschida’s cars until 1985. The team later went from the Vega to the Pontiac Trans Am in the late 70s.
Thanks for Looking at my Post!
That's a cool Funny Car. I always liked the Vega's, they remind me of a miniature Camaro.
Yep....I remember my brother had a 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega which was a subcompact limited-production version of the Chevrolet Vega, with higher performance. Fun little car. Thanks for stopping by for the "cool" comment:)
The ones that looked like actual cars were much better. And the cars had names instead of a sponsor like Tide, I didn't mind waiting 7 seconds for a race to end then.
I think the photo is quite impressive, love it !~
My Daddy-O and his friends went to DONNYBROOK and watched the racing. Just North of Brainerd Minn. Back in the good olde days when they still had Paul Bunyan Land
wickencrafts.... it sure was disappointing when I found out that Paul Bunyan had a man behind the curtain....

fortapache......After 1979, Carl Swanson won several local races with the "Cheetah" Trans Am, hitting best times of 6.16 at 238.72 mph. Yep....fast enough for me :)
