Here's a repost from my CW collection archives. I first posted this 7 years ago. All I've found out in the interum is that it's an Ikebana or Japanese flower arranger minus the water container that fits in the top opening. Beautiful gilt Satsuma decoration with panels that repeat on two sides each. Age and maker still unknown and still wondering. -Mike-

Thanks so much for the compliment and the info apostata. Haven't been finding pieces of this quality in years at least not in second hand shops where this piece came from. They actually throw things away if they don't sell by the end of the month. Can you imagine!

Well apostata the export hunting scene bowl that I paid 6 bucks for at GW went to auction at Lark Masons Gallery in New York. He's one of the appraisers for Antiques Roadshow. After 2 failed auctions with no bids it was suggested I removed the reserve. The thousands quickly faded to hundreds when it sold. I barely made my shipping money to them back. I should have just kept it. Live and learn !

you scare me , i got hot flashed by this , because it was late qianlong ( france-english market, it sounds all unreal, maybe extensive damage

actuallyIMO the garlic neck assesment of your assesor is way to steep , for the rest i can,t see a probleem surprised about the outcome

I know apostata it taught me an expense lesson. Yes the bowl had a crack but the repair was done probably a 100 years into it's existence . The repair enamel had started to chip exposing the crack. I was also told it had extensive over painting but none the less still valued at four figures.

i don,t what i advised and that is not an excuses , everyone knows this type of ware and if said probably this will do do 4 figures , i sell this myself 5 ago it was something like 750euro,even sold 1 for 3200 EURO well i don,t know what happened i could have some slight deviation, but that,s all, something must have happened??i make mistakes , but not that simple mistakes ??
