I know I have seen it before, but now I forget what it was for. Often they used fitted glass for the tiny bowls on the entrance when you entered a catholic church at the front and they were sometimes with a sponge and then filled with blessed holy water, not sure on this one but it is possible to have a smaller one, as I used to have a small one. They usually had a small medalian attached with a saint on it. Mine had just come from a church and I did not buy the alter which they had also. Here is one one for sale like mine which was also signed Rufony by the artist, but mine had a bottom ledge also holding the glass bottle.
