I rescued these two interesting art works from GW about a month ago. One is an oil on canvas in a simple lathe frame that measures 18" x 25" titled "Blue Pitcher with Palu Flower" dated 1969. The title was written in pencil on the back along the stretcher. The second is an etching that measures 22" x 25" with a aluminum frame titled " Out of the Deep" dated 1973. The title as well as "Artist Proof " and signature are all written along the bottom of the etching. There is also an art show label on the back, although it says NFS the value line says $35.
Now the interesting thing is the Nord family are generous patrons of the arts and humanities here in northern Ohio. Jane and her husband Eric have set up a foundation here that donate to colleges like Oberlin and Case Western Reserve and others. Most recently the Cleveland orchestra announced new commitments totaling $7 million that together subsidize the presentation of the Jane B. and Eric T. Nord Education Concerts for free to all schoolchildren in the region. Children in Northeast Ohio will have unfettered access to the Cleveland Orchestra in perpetuity, thanks to new gifts from Eric and Jane Nord.
So back to the paintings. From what info I found she is still living in the Kendal Senior Center here in Oberlin at the age 102 ! So that would account for them being donated to the Oberlin GW but why ? You'd think they would be family treasures. A bit of a mystery. -Mike-

Thanks for the "love" and comment Jenni. Yes, I think so too. The oil would look fantastic in an MCM interior. :)

Nice! Yeah, I don't understand people at all. A local, very accomplished artist died a few years ago, and the family consigned all her stuff to a local antique shop. She was a fourth generation artist from a prominent French family and at the consignment shop I bought paintings, charcoal and pencil drawings of her, her mother, her grandmother and her great grandparents dating back to the 1850s all done by members of the family. I cannot understand why the family did not keep those. I knew her, which is why I bought them in the hope that someday, the family will contact me and want them back.....

My thoughts exactly kwqd. I should go to the nursing home and return them to her if she is still with us at 102.
