Helmets101

So I collect fire helmets and shields and I can’t figure this one out ! I’m being told it was from Copiague New York . The problem is the shield says COPAIGUE. The A and the I are backwards . Maybe a Misprint ?? The shield was made by Cairns and Brothers . I’ve seen one other one on eBay like this so I know it’s not the only one . Any input would be great .As of now it’s a mystery to me . I added a few more pictures and the way it’s bent and looking at the rivets and holes this looks like it came off a Senator helmet it is indeed a Cairns front and by my eye it’s real . I have a few different shields the lettering and paint looks original to me . Theory maybe was an honest spelling mistake when chief or whoever filled out the order form ? I may have to take it to cairns . This type style shield was from 1940s 1950s .
My guess is, it's probably a fake. A quick search, I didn't see anything like this that they wore. Seems to be a generic font that is used for lots of different styles...
Thanks for your input . I added a few more pictures . It’s definitely made by cairns and brothers and the rivets and holes look original . I think it came off a senator. Paint and lettering is cracking at the fold . I’ve seen FDNY and other big city fakes for collectors helmets but Copiague?? I’ve seen one on eBay for $350 which is very expensive . I’ve reached out to seller for input and no response yet . Hmmmmm …
I would suggest reaching out to their fire department and local historical society and ask if they even used a similar shield and if so, what time frame.
Good idea on there local historical society . I get a chance I will definitely look into it . Thanks for your suggestion!
