This bowl is about 3" high x 5" diameter, signed on the bottom, "Faith Swan, SP-RC-SD", which stands for "Sioux Pottery - Rapid City - South Dakota". Not traditional Indian pottery.

She made a couple of different styles of pottery, heavily glazed stuff like this, and un-glazed colorful pottery which is a bit more traditional, but all of her work seems a bit touristy. Guessing it was probably gift shop tourist pottery during the Route 66 days. It does not sell for much, nowadays. She must have been pretty prolific as I have found several pieces of her work over the years. I could not find any biographical information for her, but pretty sure I did find a bit 10 or 15 years ago.

She was born on 31 May 1944 and died in January 1977 (age 32) in Pennington, SD. She was a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe (Lakota). Sioux Pottery was a pottery store that closed in 2021.

I found this at a thrift shop I visit three or four times a year. It was there the last time I went there a few weeks ago, and still there when I went back last week, so I decided to rescue it. Three or four dollars, I think.

Thanks for your comments, Jenni! Pretty traditional patterns, but glaze is not. Still, very pretty!
