I received in the mail yesterday a atomic veterans commemorative service medal form the Dept. of defense for my fathers participation in the 1954 six atomic bomb test at the Marshall islands.. My dad was a Chief Mineman aboard the USS Shea (DM30). The ships assignment was to lay 40 mines around the island to see what effect radiation had on mines. after the tests were completed the Shea retrieved the mines and took them back to Pearl Harbor.

Sorry about your dad. So much they didn't know about war work in those days, my neighbor got mesothelioma from working at the Brooklyn Navy yard back then
